There is probably nothing more distressing for a family in Indiana than cases involving Child Protective Services (CPS) and a Child in Need of Services (CHINS). These situations have the potential to rip families apart and it’s best to review all your options with an experienced Indianapolis child custody lawyer.

Not long ago, a father reached out to Hessler Law, when it was obvious that neither he nor his ex-wife could control their minor child, who was struggling with a serious substance abuse issue. To find the best possible result for this family, and protect the child’s well-being, attorney Sean Hessler facilitated a meeting with CPS and the parents. In the end, the child entered a state-funded, long-term treatment facility and once the child completed the necessary rehab and intensive counseling, attorney Hessler also arraigned to have the father take over as the primary guardian, which was a role previously held by his mother. Due to attorney Hessler’s early and in-depth intervention, the CPS system not only worked properly, but also greatly benefited this family.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
