A 35-year-old secretary was charged with a Level 6 felony for welfare fraud, Level 6 felony theft, and three Level 6 felonies for perjury. She faced up to six years in jail.

Her child had been in and out of various state-run placement facilities. During that time, she continued to receive money from the Social Security Administration (SSA). Although she was using the money for her child, the SSA alleged that she shouldn’t have since he wasn’t living with her all year. She vehemently refused any plea agreement, and with attorney Hessler with her, on the day of trial, the state dismissed the case.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
