Indianapolis criminal defense lawyer Sean Hessler recently represented a 52-year-old truck driver when a misunderstanding led to a very bleak reality. Apparently, this man was driving down the road when he saw a female motorist, driving erratically. Believing her to be driving under the influence, he forced her car to the shoulder and confronted the woman on the side of the road, forcibly taking her keys away from her. Ultimately, the female driver was not intoxicated and due to his inappropriate actions, the police charged him with misdemeanor battery, misdemeanor reckless driving, and misdemeanor reckless operation of a tractor trailer. While the man knew that he acted poorly and should have simply called the police, he now faced some very serious ramifications, including criminal convictions that could endanger his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) along with his employment as a truck driver.
After coming to the offices of Hessler Law, PC, Indiana defense attorney Sean Hessler agreed to take the man’s case in hopes mitigating the impact of this situation. Attorney Hessler began discussing the incident with the prosecution and effectively negotiated for his client to participate in a diversion program as well as pay a small fine. Once these conditions were met, the numerous misdemeanor charges were dismissed and since he never had to admit guilt, he no longer needed to worry about any impact on his profession.
