Not long ago, a 45-year-old car salesman found himself in a very precarious legal position when he was charged with a felony level offense of corrupt business practices. Evidently, the man became acquainted with a young woman and purported to be an agent that could assist her with her career goals. After collecting approximately $150,000 from this woman, it was apparent that this business was not legitimate and she contacted the authorities. Now faced with the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence, the man contacted experienced Indianapolis criminal defense attorney Sean Hessler.

Attorney Sean Hessler used his extensive experience with similar felony cases in an effort to keep his client out of prison. It became clear that at roughly the same time the situation was happening with the young woman, his client was charged with a similar crime in another jurisdiction and served some time in prison. Attorney Hessler used this fact and negotiated on his client’s behalf. He succeeded in getting all the parties involved to agree that his client would pay $50,000 in restitution and argued that his client should be sentenced to time served since his earlier conviction could have incorporated the penalty for this offense as well. Ultimately, in the interest of fairness and in order for the victim to realistically recoup her lost funds, the court agreed, and the client was relieved to be spared from more time in prison.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
